Have you ever wondered who reads your text? Like this one? Does anyone relate to it?
I would like to share part of a song that I like “Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel.
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
It can be interpreted in so so so many ways, however, I would like to bring your attention to how apt the meaning is when we have our discussion on line in the OUM’s myInspire. For us, as e-tutors, we really feel the silence when the students are not online.
When students are “talking without speaking” and “hearing without listening”, they are too afraid to share their personal ideas or consider the ideas of others. ONE student’s refusal of sharing and receiving meaningful ideas dissuades others from sharing meaningful ideas, which leaves everyone isolated in a personal bubble of “SILENCE”.
We can change the silence into “meaningful” discussions. NO more SILENCE please.
